Gilfach Goch Community Council inaugurates new offices with community open fun day on 26 May

Gilfach Goch Community Council announces the completion of its move to bigger community premises and invites the whole community join council members and staff to celebrate the opening on Monday 26 May from 11am – 2pm. The new headquarters are based in the Cambrian Avenue Community Centre (what was known as “The White Hut”) on Cambrian Avenue, Gilfach Goch CF39 8TG.

The open day will include hot dogs and burgers, ice cream, bouncy castles, candy floss, pop corn, face painting, entertainment from Rhondda Radio and so much more. EVERYTHING WILL BE FREE FOR THE CHILDREN OF GILFACH GOCH. Come and have some fun and make some noise.

The premises were acquired from RCT County Borough Council under a community asset transfer scheme. This allows for the community to take over assets such as empty buildings no longer needed by the county council at no or low cost. As well as being a place of administration and council meeting venue, we plan to make it available for community use. It will also continue to be used as a polling station at elections.

Gilfach Goch Community Council is considering options for the old premises at Etna Terrace. “These include demolition and creation of a community garden. Upgrading the old office to modern standards and expectations was prohibitively expensive,” says Council Chair Cllr Andrew Draper.

Clerk to the Council, Dawn Walters, adds: “The renovated White Hut offers premises that are fit for purpose, value for council taxpayers and will be a real community asset.”
